Team 1 Update

Hi there :) Team 1 had a great time serving on sunday night.

Training went well & we assessed 2 people. My apprentice Mathys passed static 4, and Lachlan did a great job & passed static centre. Well done!

We also said farewell to Liz who is taking 6 months off to focus on her thesis & studies, she's been a faithful & dedicated volunteer so we're sad to see her go, but look forward to her return. We prayed for her as a team and there was a great sense of community/unity amongst us.

We also had a surprise visit by a former team member. Michael Chruscinski now lives in Adelaide but was in Perth for the weekend and came backstage, it was great to see him again & perfect timing.. as he didn't know our team would be rostered on!

The whole team was present, so we arranged for Mabel to take a team photo..

From left to right we have - (back row) - Lachlan, Kerry, Ben, Mathys, Francis - (front row) - Karen, Micky, Me, Liz, Tyson, Erling.

Love Joelle

Welcome New Contributor!

We have a new rvtvcrew.com contributor in Adrian Grant. (aka "Silver")

As mentioned in the previous post, Adrian is a key person in team 3 and a lovely man and will be the blog's team 3 representative.

So i'm sure he'll give himself a bit of an introduction very soon anyway, but stay tuned for him to update us on the happenings in team 3 and bring some good old fashioned humour!

Welcome aboard Adrian!

people from team 3!

Well team 3 was rostered on Saturday night just gone. Who might i just say are a lovely bunch of fine people.

Now i must say, i'm not on team 3 but as i was around after the service i was luckily enough to cruise along with them after their shoot to brandos for some pizza.

I decided to act upon the god ordained oppurtunity given to me by my creator to whip my camera out of my pocket and take a few snaps! It was heavenly!

2 champs that have each been on the team quite some time now in Shannon and Peter.. Shannon is a bit of camera 4 specialist and Peter is a crazy edgy handheld man!

Adrian, Wai Ling and the leader of team 3 Mr Darryl Chan. Adrian has just passed static center and is now up on camera 4, Wai Ling i believe is training to do multimedia. Darryl is a handheld man too and a future director. They are all lovely people and very passionate about serving. I've found theres a really good strong sense of community in team 3.

This is the lovely Sky Scott. She's married to Jon Scott. And they are both very nice people. Sky's been coming to riverview for years and decided last year sometime to join the crew and get involved which has been great. Sky operates the static cameras mostly and likes pulling funny faces when i point a camera at her! Marvellous!

Cheers

Smithay on Holidays

Hi Gang,

In the last couple of weeks Donna the girls and I had the priviledge of a great family holiday up north to do a 'small' spot of fishing and enjoy the sun.

Donna doesn't 'DO' small!!!! (yes she caught it!!!)
And check out the great 600 Eps. shirt!!!!!!!
God bless all!
Smithay.

Prayer Report.

As the previous post explains we took time this week to fast & pray for various needs, specifically asking for more volunteers for the crew.

So it was very exciting to receive an email this morning with 4 new people who've asked to join! All are bible college students who want to serve while they study, and the goal is to get them to orientation asap and see how they go.

It's quite rare to have 4 people join in one hit, so i simply call it an answer to prayer, we spent tuesday praying for new people, and God has replied with a list of names! :)

I know that prayer is powerful and effective, so i shouldn't be surprised when God responds, the thing i love the most though is His perfect timing.. exactly when we need more people Bible college has begun and students want to join. God is the divine jigsaw puzzler!

DVD Post Production

The editing has begun!! We've hired a digital betacam machine and have launched the capturing process.
And it only took 3 hours to work out how to connect it.. Yikes. (it's a lot more complex than my dvd player!)
The footage looks stunning and it'll be an action packed couple of weeks putting the songs together. Stay tuned for more updates as we create our 1st ever 16:9 recording.

* One of those trainees (Phil) just got engaged to a great girl (Ronel) congratulations!
* 7 crew members attended multimedia training last week and picked it up really well, solving our multimedia shortage.. hooray!
* I'll be hosting another training session soon to develop new directors, keep an eye on the crew notes for more details.

The Reason why we serve!

Here's a great testimony that captures the heart of why we do what we do. I shared it with the leaders at our meeting last week, and thought it would be great to share with the rest of the crew.. I hope it helps remind you of the impact of video ministry & the tremendous cause behind serving in church.. Thanks for sharing Dan!

I had my first encounter with Riverview Church, then known as Rhema Family Church while I was studying at uni just after I had finished high school and left Kalgoorlie. I remember being freaked out by the worship. It was very out there for me, coming from Baptist Churches where if the song wasn’t in the Yellow, Brown or Blue songbook it wasn’t worship. Sy Rogers was preaching that night, and he spoke very well. I remember thinking “that church is weird, but the speaker was very good”. I also remember thinking that the large screens were wasted in a church…

About a year later I moved back to Kalgoorlie. Being alone in the city was too hard. My brother Andrew (Bob) and his wife Paula had moved to Perth, and my brother Dave did as well a few years later to attend Bible College at Riverview. Eventually he started working in the sound team, and is now on staff. Bob and Paula also started attending Riverview, and last year finished studying at the Leadership College. They are part of the worship team.

Usually once a year I would visit Bob and Paula in Perth on my holidays. On one of these trips I went with them to Riverview. I had been close to God and depended on him, but didn’t want to have anything to do with Church. God impacted me. I put up my hand, and went forward at the alter call. I couldn’t speak for a good hour afterwards without breaking down into tears. I wanted to leave Kal again just so I could keep going to Riverview, but I had work commitments, and didn’t know how I could make it happen. Dave told me about Churchlive which was screening on GWN on Sunday mornings, so I settled for that. I also tried going back to Church. I had been hurt by churches before, and stopped going after about a year. Churchlive kept me going. I recorded each episode, and absolutely loved Phil’s preaching. I often thought of emailing and telling of how the program had helped me, but never did.
I still felt like Perth was where I needed to be, and that I really needed to go to Riverview, so in September 2004 I moved to Perth, moved in with my brother Dave and started going to Riverview.

This was what I needed. I was able just to be in the crowd and not feel pressured, I could just listen. I did one unit at the Leadership College the next year, however at the end I decided not to continue as I felt that work was where I needed to be, not Bible College. I also felt that I should start to volunteer, but was reluctant as I had been hurt so much by churches, and had ended up resenting volunteering, feeling used and not appreciated.

In about October 2006 I decided it was time to trust God, and to volunteer, and I also wanted to meet new people. I went to a new people’s night and signed up. I didn’t say it, but desperately wanted to serve in the video crew. I wanted to help the program that helped me so much. My wish was granted and I became part of the RVTV crew.

I absolutely loved working on cameras (the audio/visual geek in me rose to the surface). Eventually they asked for people to help out with the tech team and run iris for the cameras. I volunteered again, and again enjoyed learning how to set up cameras and the workings behind the scenes.

In the last month I had started feeling tired and resentful from serving so much. I started to question why I was bothering. Then last week I was doing grip for the jib crane (tech jargon for pushing the crane) and during the alter call, I saw someone put up their hand.

This moment it hit me that this was why I was serving, why everyone puts in so much effort at church. For moments like this. For someone to meet God, and to have their life changed. It reminded me of how I felt at that moment when I was the one being impacted. I feel renewed now, that even though I volunteer, even though I may feel that I am not doing anything worth while, that I am doing it for the sake of doing it, or because I said I would, I am contributing to changing someone’s life. For moments like that Sunday night. God sees what I do, and he appreciates that, and he uses that for his purpose.

I don’t think those big screens are wasted at Church anymore…
